bodies-under-siege java chat
the chat room has changed. now you can chat with other people about
life, the universe, and si at
this Java/IRC chat.
The link takes you to the Java version; to connect with IRC use
chat.hosting4u.net
as the server with port 7000.
If you do not self-injure and never have, please respect the privacy
of this support group and go instead to the non-bus chat for friends,
family members, partners, and other loved ones of people who
self-harm. Thank you.
If you're looking to trade software or get laid, don't bother
coming into the chat. you will be kicked out.
A few guidelines:
- Choose a non-triggering nickname. People in the chat are at
all levels of recovery and sensitivity, and some nicknames (bloodgirl,
razorslash, slicemeopen, etc) will make people really
uncomfortable. Pick something simple and neutral, and if you do choose
a triggery name, don't be offended if you're asked to change it
(because you will be).
- Be respectful of others in the chat. If something being discussed
is bothering you, you can ask if anyone else is bothered. If no one
else seems to be, you can leave for a while -- the subject will change
eventually. If the topic is bothering most of the people in the
channel, then the people discussing it can be asked to take it to
private messages (you send those by typing /msg
).
- If someone asks you to take something to private messages, please
respect their request.
- Please remember that the people on the channel(in the chat area)
mean well and that some of them may be as confused or hurting as you
are. Try to be gentle as you interact.
- If you really need to talk about something and there's a lot of
general conversation, you might consider asking if someone could talk
to you privately.
- Personal attacks are not permitted on the channel.
- Please don't go into the chat while you are actually harming
yourself. It's okay to go in afterward.
- Try not to give details or get graphic about your SI. Sometimes
this escalates into competitions or makes people feel bad because
they're not as "bad" as someone else.
- Enjoy yourself, and relax.
Thanks for helping keep the chat area a safe place.
